At TLC Cherry Hinton Care Home, we believe the festive season is about kindness, connection and bringing comfort to others. This year, we were proud to take part in Operation Christmas Child, a global initiative that delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to children who may otherwise go without a Christmas present.

To support the appeal, we created a Christmas Shoebox Donation Station. Residents, relatives, team member, and members of the local community were warmly invited to contribute small, thoughtful gifts to help fill the boxes. From toys and stationery to personal care items and little surprises, every donation was chosen with care and generosity.

The response from our community was truly heart-warming. Over the course of the collection period, we received an incredible number of gifts, with people of all ages joining in to help make a child’s Christmas brighter. Seeing residents and families coming together for such a meaningful cause reminded us how powerful community spirit can be, especially at this time of year.

All donated gifts were then delivered to Cottenham Hall, where on Saturday 1 November 2025, volunteers gathered to sort and pack everything into shoeboxes ready for shipping. Thanks to the kindness and effort of everyone involved, a remarkable 554 shoeboxes were created in total.

Each box will now begin its journey to children in need across the world — children who may not otherwise receive anything this Christmas. Knowing that our residents, families, and neighbours have helped to create so many moments of joy makes this initiative especially meaningful for us.
