TLC Care was proud to participate in the Care Innovation Summit on Wednesday 19 June at the Business Design Centre in Islington. Representing the organisation was Alina Renée, our Regional Facilities and Health and Safety Manager, who joined a select group of leaders for the closed roundtable session titled ‘The Sustainability Roundtable: A Care Sector Perspective.’
Championing Sustainability in the Care Sector
The roundtable, hosted by Blueleaf Care, brought together senior leaders from across the care industry to explore the opportunities, challenges and practical steps involved in driving sustainability forward. The session provided a safe, collaborative environment for open discussion, with all contributions treated in confidence and any quotes intended for publication subject to individual approval.
Participants included senior representatives from Bupa Care Services, Oakland Care, Aria Care, Anchor, Somerset Care and Agincare. Alina contributed valuable insight from TLC Care’s perspective, highlighting the importance of balancing environmental responsibility with operational efficiency and resident wellbeing.
Embedding Quality in Everything We Do
At TLC Care, our approach to sustainability is underpinned by a deep commitment to quality. As an organisation ISO 14001 certified, we’re committed to continuous improvement, innovation and responsible care delivery. This has been achieved across all of our homes and reflects our belief that exceptional care goes hand in hand with protecting the environment. By embedding sustainable practices into everything we do, from energy efficiency and waste reduction to greener supply chains, we ensure that our residents, team members and communities can thrive today and for generations to come.
Key Themes and Questions
Facilitated by Blueleaf CEO Nick Frogbrook and Head of Marketing Elizabeth Butcher, the discussion explored a range of topics including:
- Understanding what sustainability means within different care settings
- How environmental, financial and workforce sustainability intersect
- The impact of the new CQC assessment framework
- The difference between Net Zero and Carbon Neutral commitments
- Government policy and its role in enabling sustainable change
Panellists were also invited to share successful initiatives, identify barriers to implementation and suggest what further support would help advance sustainability goals across the sector.

Innovation and Collaboration in Action
The summit also featured keynote presentations, including a session led by James Bullion CBE, Interim Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care and Integrated Care. Delegates explored the latest innovations shaping the future of care, such as the Raizer emergency lifting chair and other smart solutions designed to enhance safety, dignity and sustainability.
