We were delighted to welcome the ITV News film crew to Candlewood House, where they spent the day speaking with some of our wonderful residents and our Home Manager, Dr Jeya Keerthi.
The segment, which aired on the ITV News programme at 6.30pm on Thursday 19 June, highlighted how our team helps residents and team members stay safe and comfortable during heatwaves.

Keeping Cool and Connected
At Candlewood House, we take a proactive approach to managing hot weather, with thoughtful measures in place to support everyone’s wellbeing. These include:
- Air conditioning throughout the home
- Events with an ice cream van with free ice cream for residents, team members and local schoolchildren
- Dedicated hydration stations throughout the home with cool drinks available at all times
- Indoor garden rooms and multiple air-conditioned communal areas
- Shaded outdoor spaces and canopies in the garden
- Slow-paced, calming activities tailored to individual needs
- Engaging social events that help take residents’ minds off the heat
- A strong connection with the local community to extend support beyond our home
Dr Jeya Keerthi shared insights into how our holistic approach not only keeps residents physically comfortable, but also supports their emotional and social wellbeing during the summer months.
